Welcome to Big Blue Campers!

Whilst the website and brand name are new, we have been hiring campervans from our lovely barn in Kent since 2013 as First Class Campers.   We originally purchased 4 classic VW’s which were beautiful and great fun, and had 5 fantastic years hiring these to hundreds of customers.  Our classic campers were used for countless holidays, film launches, funerals, weddings and even tv appearances!

The plan was that this would be my Dad’s retirement business, as he loved the vans and spending time introducing them to people, explaining their individual quirks!  Unfortunately life sometimes doesn’t stick to the plan.

In 2016 I added Tad, our gorgeous T5 automatic campervan to the fleet and he proved even more popular than the classics! So last summer I made the tough decision to sell the 4 classics and refocus the business on these more modern vehicles.  The classics have all found new homes, and as we head into 2019 I am looking for the perfect vans to add to the new fleet.

I’m also taking the opportunity to focus the campervan business on my other passion; ocean conservation.  I have been lucky enough to be involved with various conservation projects from beach cleans in the UK, to kayaking with Orcas in Canada, visiting the frozen ocean ice in Svalbard (in the Arctic Circle) and even diving with everything from huge manta rays to baby turtles around the world.

The new name, Big Blue Campers reflects this commitment to the big blue sea and I am committed to meeting some pretty tough environmental challenges.  I will try to remove single use plastics from the business wherever possible, and provided customers with environmentally friendly alternatives sourced from local companies.

The new vans will all be equipped with the eco-friendly ‘Bluemotion’ engines and as soon as viable electric vehicles are available, I will try to add them to the fleet.  In the meantime, I’m exploring the most effective way to offset the carbon footprint generated by the business.

I have pledged that 15% of our profits will go directly to ocean conservation projects, as well as the other environmental projects and charities Big Blue Campers already supports.

I hope you like the new brand, and support our environmental objectives. If you want to hear more about these exciting projects, or when we have last minute hire deals, please subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media.

Thanks for your interest!
